I've written before about the advantages of Open Source Software, including content management systems like Drupal. One of the advantages is that there's a whole ecosystem of community-contributed stuff for you to use, including extra functionality and visual themes. Many of them are quite good. The result is a much shorter development cycle, which saves you time and money.
But what about when you have to create something from scratch, like a custom Drupal theme? It only makes sense to give back to the community by submitting your theme to Drupal.org. That's exactly what I've done; I created a Drupal 7 theme for a non-profit website and I've submitted it to be published as an official community-contributed theme on Drupal.org.
This follows the module patch I submitted last year.
